Regional Council Commission News

Name Update!

Nominations now closed for receiving name suggestions!

Thank you everyone for sending in your ideas for a name for Region 5! We have received so many wonderful ideas, and are in the process of shortlisting them and considering how the final decision will be made.

In the meanwhile, a motion was passed at our last commission meeting making Region 5 of the United Church of Canada our legal name for legal and transition purposes.

Stay tuned for more name information in the new year!

Inaugural Region 5 Gathering

Planning is now well underway for the first gathering / meeting of the full Region 5 membership.

The Transition Commission and the Meeting Planning team are working hard to organize a regional gathering that is more than the initial business meeting of the Region. The discussions to fine-tune the theme have been rich and full!

YES, as you read in earlier info-bulletins, the gathering will be held at the Keystone Centre in Brandon MB.

There are many quality places to stay in Brandon, but if you want to reserve a room at the Canad Inns attached to the Keystone, they do have a block of rooms set aside for the gathering.

Each person is to make their own reservation.

Reminder – Each congregation will need to name their voting delegate(s) at their annual meeting. The number of delegates for each congregation/community of faith is exactly the same as it was for Conference. Please save the dates and watch for more information early in the New Year.

To reserve your room:

Canad Inns Destination Centre Brandon
1 (204) 727—1422

Quote: “United Church Region 5” or use Group Reservation # 385913

Room rate is $119 plus tax per night.

Assessments

By now every congregation should have received information about assessments from General Council. On October 25 every congregation was sent login information to see their assessment online (this was sent to whomever received the statistic forms in the past).

On December 12 another email was sent with assessment information and
options as to how you want to pay and the payment frequency.

Church Hub

ChurchHub is a family of portals that allows communities of faith, ministry
personnel, staff, and church members who are serving on denominational
committees to communicate with the denomination.

For communities of faith and ministry personnel, the pastoral relations system has moved online to be part of ChurchHub.

The introduction to ChurchHub webinar is available to watch on united-in-learning.com. This page includes the  webinar, a FAQ page, and the slides included in the presentation.

Volunteers Needed!

As we restructure into our new entity there will continue to be a need for  people to share their time and talent in a wide variety of ways.

To this end, YOU may be getting a phone call or an email asking YOU to share your talents and time as we live into the work and service that will belong to Region 5.

To those of you who have already said yes, and to those of you who will, many thanks. We know that all who are asked will prayerfully consider the request before them and we thank all of you for your openness as we seek to serve God in this time and place.
